Often referred to as the gateway to South India, Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) has added another prestigious accolade to its growing list of honors. The airport has been named the “Best Airport for Arrivals Globally” for 2024 by the Airports Council International (ACI)—a proud milestone for India. Impressively, this is the third consecutive year that BLR Airport has received this recognition, underscoring its unwavering commitment to excellence in passenger service.

Passenger-Centric Innovation

The award is part of ACI’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards, which are determined solely by real-time passenger feedback. It evaluates critical aspects such as cleanliness, baggage handling, ease of navigation, and the overall comfort of the arrival experience. In all categories, BLR Airport scored exceptionally well.

Travelers have consistently praised Bengaluru’s airport for its efficient immigration process, prompt baggage delivery, and well-coordinated ground transportation. Its thoughtful amenities—including spacious seating, responsive staff assistance, and bilingual signage—make the airport a favorite for both domestic and international passengers.

A Model for Modern Airports

Hari Marar, MD & CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), commented on the achievement:

In recent years, BLR has made major strides in innovation, investing in smart technology, contactless entry systems, enhanced wayfinding, and sustainability initiatives. It is also among the few airports globally to operate with 100% renewable energy, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally responsible operations.

“This recognition is a testament to our relentless efforts to prioritize the passenger experience. From the moment someone steps off the plane to the time they leave the terminal, we aim to make their journey seamless and welcoming.”

Global Recognition, Local Pride

This recognition is especially significant, as it places an Indian airport at the top of a category traditionally dominated by major international hubs in Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. It stands as a moment of national pride for both residents and the Indian aviation community.

The global recognition is already having a ripple effect locally, boosting tourism, business travel, and investment in and around Bengaluru. Local businesses have seen increased footfall, and the airport continues to serve as a catalyst for economic growth.

Looking Ahead

With the opening of Terminal 2—often called the “Terminal in a Garden”—and a growing network of international connections, Kempegowda International Airport is poised to scale even greater heights in the coming years.

As the aviation industry rebounds in the post-pandemic era, BLR’s sustained focus on excellence in arrival experiences sets a global benchmark for others to follow.
